COME AWAKE

Sleep; dream and waking which we know are nothing but different states of mind only. Awakening or being awake which we talk about, which in the yogic parlance is termed as Self-realization or enlightenment, is of within. How you are within, that only determines if you are awake or asleep. If you are awake within then only you are awake because this state is not of your mind but beyond mind. This is transcendental. This waking up or awakening is also called as fourth state or “turiya”. One who has realized this state is awake even in his sleep. But one who has not reached this state, like most of us, then that person is asleep even in his waking hours.

Waking up within means to become silent within. This silence is not of the speech but of the mind. Silence here means stillness of your mind because mind is a disturbance. Mind disturbs your peace. Mind exists by its activity. Thought is the activity of mind. When mind is not in action there prevails perfect peace which is our original state or nature. Mind is nothing but thoughts – multitude of thoughts. Mind exists and survives by thoughts. When thoughts are there, mind is there and vice-versa. Else, there is no such thing as mind. If you search within you will not find anything which you can name as mind. Mind appears with the thoughts only.

You cannot control your mind because mind cannot control mind. The only way is to go beyond mind and that is to dissolve the mind itself; to kill the mind; to obliterate the mind altogether because mind is imaginary; mind is non-existence. Mind is an illusion. Silence dissolves the mind. If your mind is fixed in the silence which is another name for Self, the mind will dissolve and will finally merge into the Self itself because the origin of the mind too is the same Self. A disturbed Self is mind and a still mind is the Self.

Meditation is a practice to become silent within. Meditation has nothing to do with what you do on the outside. Neither has the body position or body posture to do anything with meditation. Meditation is to do with your inside which to awake within. When you are awake within which is to be silent and fully conscious within, you become like a mirror which just reflects the things as they are. You see the things as they are without imposing or projecting anything from your side because projections are of the mind.
