GETTING INTO MEDITATION

Writing (whatever little I’m doing) is not my objective. This is just a side-effect of what I am currently pursuing. My main objective of writing is to highlight the importance of meditation so that more and more people get initiated into meditation. Because meditation is the only sadhana which prepares you to go beyond this physical form which we are in. Transcending physicality is what Self-realization or atmasaksatkar is.

The most important thing about meditation which one should know is that one cannot do meditation because meditation is not a doing. Doings are of the body and mind whereas meditation is going beyond mind. Meditation is not concentration also because concentration is of the mind. Meditation is being; meditation is presence. And being is beyond mind. Meditation is to keep your consciousness free. This existence is just being.

That’s why this post. In this post I’m sharing something practical for those who are not yet initiated into meditation. It’s a very simple thing to do. You do not have to go anywhere or do anything specific. You can do this small exercise wherever you are. The only thing is that you just need to spare 20 minutes out of your busy schedule – 10 minutes in the morning after you wake up and 10 minutes in the night before you go to sleep. You should do this in the bed itself.

What you have to do is that immediately after you wake up, do not leave your bed and in the bed itself just sit silently for 10 minutes and ask yourself this question – ‘Who Am I?’ or ‘Mei Kaun Hun?’ Same thing, you should do for 10 minutes in the bed just before going to sleep. You do not have to utter it loudly but ask within only. Just ask this question for 10 minutes and leave it there. Nothing further needs to be done. You do not have to find answers like I’m atman or brahman etc, Because these answers will come from your mind. The answer has to come from within, from your being. Hence just stay with enquiry. This will gradually lead you into meditation and slowly and slowly the time for which you can sit by yourself will increase. Sitting alone by yourself and keeping your consciousness free of all entanglements is what meditation is all about

  1. Right, Niyaji. Sitting quietly with yourself doing nothing and just being in the present with yourself is more important and initiation into meditation. Rest all follows.

  2. Am glad you are spreading the light! Bow down. A quick question, can we say 'Main Shudh Aaatma Hun' instead of 'Main Kaun Hun'?

Also do you meditate on Tirthankars? Light? As in the focus? Please share / write more on this topic
