WHO ARE YOU?
Are you the one who existed in deep sleep (dreamless sleep) last night or are you the one who is existing now in your waking hours? In your deep sleep, you were free from all worries but now in your waking state, you are unhappy and miserable. You knew nothing about struggle and conflict in your deep sleep but the same has suddenly appeared now in your waking state. Why? Are you the same person or two different persons – one who existed in deep sleep and another who is existing now? The answer, obviously, is that you are not two different persons but one and the same who not only existed in deep sleep but also the one who continue existing now. If you are the same person then why you are suddenly unhappy and miserable now? Why this unhappiness and misery did not exist for you in your deep sleep though you were very much alive and existed in your sleep?
What has changed between the two states? What is the new which has now suddenly appeared with your waking that you are unhappy and miserable now? What is that which did not exist in your sleep or disappeared with your sleep that you were not unhappy in your deep sleep and yet you were alive and existed very much? Does not this mean that, your existence is independent of your two states? Is not there something in you which is unchanging and which continues to exist both in your sleep and your waking hours? Are not your suffering; unhappiness; happiness etc are different from your existence? Is that which appears and disappears, your reality or that which remains unchanging, your reality?

In fact, this is the only question in the whole existence which is worth asking and worth pursuing an answer. Because one who finds an answer to this question, finds answers to all other questions in the existence.
Finding an answer to this fundamental question is what seeking or spirituality is and realizing and abiding in that true state is what Self-realization is. A Self-realized person is one who has not only realized his true state but also abides in that state.
Instead of wasting
life in finding answers to so many other questions which are nothing but your
mental nonsense, find an answer to this fundamental and most obvious question. An
answer to this question will end all your woes; all your struggle and you will exist
here, free of all worries in your waking hours too as you existed in your deep
sleep. Meditation is a method which helps you find an answer to this fundamental
question.
Now, the only difference between the two states is…….please read in the next post.
