CONFUSION AND CLARITY

The common example of confusion which is usually sighted with reference to spirituality is of seeing a snake in a rope. What happened was that in the night when it was pitch dark you saw something curvy lying on the floor and you imagined this to be a snake. Because you thought it to be a snake, not only you were full of fear but you also thought of using a stick to chase the ‘snake’ away. Before you could do anything someone suggested to light a lamp which you quickly did and in that light, you were surprised to see that what you imagined to be a snake was really not a snake but a rope lying there.   Light, thus, brought clarity and in that clarity, you could see the things as they are and consequent to that all fear too had disappeared. Light, thus, is clarity and darkness is confusion. It was darkness which caused this bhram or confusion of seeing a snake in a rope. Also, confusion prevailed only so long there was no light. The moment you brought in light, not only the dark...

MEDITATION IS THE MOST SIMPLE AND YET THE HARDEST THING TO DO – WHY?

This difficulty is not because of meditation per se. This difficulty is also not because meditation is a difficult thing to do. Not at all. In fact, meditation is the simplest thing to do because for being in meditation you really do not have to do anything. In fact, for being in meditation, you, rather, have to drop all your doings. You are not supposed to do anything. The only thing you really need to do is not to do anything because meditation is not a doing. Meditation is just being; just relaxing, just existing like a presence. D hayn karane ka namm nahi hai. Dhayn hone ka naam hai. The difficulty comes from your sitting – sitting alone by yourself. That becomes the hardest thing to do. That’s why, when the time to sit for meditation comes, one becomes scared; one becomes worried because sitting alone by oneself is the most difficult thing to do. Sitting alone by yourself means, your movement or doing is restricted; you feel constricted within, whereas ego loves doing. Ego lov...

THE NOISE IS NOT ON THE OUTSIDE. THE NOISE IS WITHIN YOU

Imagine for a moment that you are sitting in your room and you heard a dog barking outside. Instantly, you made some mental commentary within, saying – "Oh, a dog is barking; it’s my neighbour’s dog; why it is barking; why do not they control it; do not they know that his barking is disturbing me etc etc." Now, this mumbling within is of your mind. Mind means memory or stored information. Because you identified with your mind, I mean memory, and hence you reacted instantly to dog’s barking. This mumbling within, comes from our identification with the past memory and hence it is a reaction. Reaction, thus, is of the mind. Reaction is ours. Reaction is of the ego. Our reaction has nothing to do with the reality. The dog does not even know that his barking is disturbing you. The dog is just living its nature.      If you choose not to react, both the dog and barking do not exist for you. This is true about everything else, I mean, whatever the movement, or so called ‘nois...
