SPIRITUALITY IS LIKE "JAB JAGO TABHI SAVERA" – AS YOU WAKE UP, SO BEGINS THE DAY

There is no such thing as delay or missing something in spirituality. These things are always there in worldly matters as a result of which one could suffer some kind of loss too, such as opportunity loss; monetary loss etc. However, this is not the case with spirituality.

Doors of spirituality are always open. Even with loss of age or advanced age, you do not lose anything. Not only but even your past track record too does not come in your way and cannot stop you from becoming spiritual. This may not be true with regard to the worldly matters because with passing age or missing opportunity, worldly doors may shut on you forever and consequent to that, there could be some irreversible loss as well but in spirituality, this is not the case. That’s the reason that even the hardened criminals like Arjun Mali and Angulimal could turn spiritual and become followers of Lord Mahavira and Gautama the Buddha respectively despite their hateful past.

Why this is so? Because spirituality is nothing but just shifting of your focus or attention. If you are outwardly focused you are worldly because outward means the world or the others. But if the same focus is turned inward you become spiritual. Outward is physicality and inward is divine. Outward is movement which we see around us and inward is silence and stillness. Outward is periphery and inward is your Center. These are the only two possibilities, one could exist in i.e. outwardly focused (bahirmukha) and inwardly focused (antarmukha). There is no third possibility. So if you are just focused on the movement or that which is happening on the outside then you will always live as a worldly person but if you dare to shift the same focus from outward to inward, you will become a spiritual person, in no time.

Also for turning spiritual you do not have to leave your home and go to the jungles. You do not even have to stop doing your worldly things. Not at all. Turning inward or turning spiritual means you continue living where you have been and continue doing what you have been but the only difference is that now your focus is always turned inward; you are always established in your interiority; you are always established in your svabhava which is silence and stillness, irrespective of what you do.

Thus, in spirituality, you are always in time and never delayed and that’s why, spirituality, is like jab jago tabhi savera, as you wake up, so begins the day because one could turn spiritual anytime in his life. What is needed for turning spiritual is always there with you. Your inside or interiority is what divine or spirituality is and that is always with you. How can you lose or miss something that which is always with you? Yes, you may forget but can never lose your interiority. Remembrance is all that is needed. Forgetfulness is behoshi and remembrance is jagana. Forgetfulness is vibhava and remembrance is svavhava. Nothing else but remembrance is all that is needed for being spiritual. Hence, turn inward and be spiritual now, in this moment itself, irrespective of your age and your past. Mediation is turning inward.
