KEVAL GYAN MEANS ONLY (KEVAL) KNOWING (GYAN)
Did you ever wonder at the level and kind of knowledge a mystic has? I’m sure, you must have. Not only, but after having met a mystic, the first thought which must have come to your mind is, how and where from did he gather this knowledge? For sure, you, must have wanted to know as which books, he has been reading or he has read so that you could also access those books or that source so as to be equally knowledgeable as the mystic is. But you are mistaken. Because you are functioning out of your mind, hence, you also think that way. Because we gather knowledge from books and other sources on the outside by using our mind, we think or assume that he, too, must have done that. We only know and think that knowledge can only be gathered or acquired from outside such as books etc. This is totally incorrect.
We need to understand one thing that what a mystic has with him is not knowledge but knowing. Knowledge and knowing are completely different things. Knowledge is acquired or gathered from outside through means such as books etc but knowing is not acquired from outside, like knowledge. Knowing arises from within. Knowing happens from within. Knowing happens from the core of your ‘Being’. Because, knowing comes from within, it is your own, whereas knowledge which is gathered from outside, is borrowed and hence a burden on you. In fact, gathering knowledge from outside is nothing different than gathering money or gathering something else physical because gathering is a habit. Now, we people are not prepared to believe this because for us what we know as knowledge is always that which is collected or gathered from outside. We, therefore, cannot understand that knowledge can happen from within also. We, therefore, always doubt as how this is possible to know from within.
This fact cannot be understood but can only be experienced. What we need to understand is that the consciousness which is our reality and is the reality of this existence too, is knowing itself. The very nature of consciousness is knowing. Consciousness is pure illumination or pure knowing. This consciousness is the eternity, in the sense that in this very consciousness everything has happened so far, is happening now and will happen tomorrow. Thus, this consciousness is all and nothing does exist and arise apart from this consciousness. Whatever that happened so far, has happened in this moment and that which will happen tomorrow, too will come out of this consciousness. Thus, in this consciousness, everything is available or sort of recorded there. Because, our core or Center too is the same consciousness and is functioning all the time within us, hence, if you become in tune with this existence, you too will have access to all those records. In the moment, when you are one with the existence or in tune with the existence, the wisdom which arises from within is, what we know as knowing.
Knowing arises when your thinking stops which is that when your mind ceases to be. A no-mind state, is a state of pure awareness and in that state, you are connected to the existence. You are separate only in your mind. When you are just aware, you are one with the whole; you have become the existence itself and thus you have access to all that is there in that moment. In the moment, when you are totally relaxed within i.e. there is no tension at the level of your body and mind, in that moment, you fall in tune with the existence. That is why this moment is all and this moment is said to be eternity because this moment contains all. Nothing is apart from this moment or consciousness. Everything arises and exists within this moment or consciousness only.
An enlightened being or Kevalgyani is always
in tune with the existence, he is always one with the whole and hence he has become
only (keval) knowing (gyani) or pure awareness n he, thus, has access
to all that is there in this moment. For a kevalgyani, there is no such
thing as past or future. For him, everything is here and now, in this moment.
He, thus, has access to all which for us is past or future. Meditation is pure
awareness; pure knowing. When sustained over a period of time, meditation
culminates into samadhi which is to become just presence or pure knowing
or awareness or to become what we know as kevalgyani.
