SANYASA IS STRAYING AWAY (BHATAKAV) FROM THE MAIN WORK
Because, what is important is the work and not changing your clothes or place of living. So, if you know, what is the real work then, you don’t have to become a sanyasi. Truly speaking sanyasa is a sort of deviation (bhatkava) from the real work because, you do not know, what is the work to be done and hence you are becoming a sanyasi. If, you really know, as what is to be done, then sanyasa or no sanyasa, does not make any difference. If you know, what is the real work and you are already doing that real work, then you are a sanyasi, already, and all the time, irrespective of your place of living or the clothes you wear.
Now, let us understand that, sanyasa is not about you leaving or dropping something because you leaving or dropping something is a ‘doing’ and ‘doing’ is of the ego and for the satisfaction of the ego only and hence a bondage. That’s what is happening, today, in the name of sanyasa. Sanyasa is not about you leaving something but sanyasa is about things getting dropped, on their own and of their own accord. Sanyasa should be a consequence and not a reason.
In fact, Gautama, the Buddha too admitted this. Post his enlightenment, when he went back home, the palace where he lived with his family, and his wife asked him – was it necessary for him to leave home for being a Buddha? Gautama, just lowered his head and kept quiet because, by that time, he knew it, very well that, place of living is not important. What is important is dropping your mind and mind is always there with you even, if you go to the jungles. So, the work is important and not place of living or clothes you wear and the work is internal which can be done anywhere – be it home or jungles.
The real work, therefore, is to become conscious or awaken yourself because in consciousness there is no other and hence doing only that which is needed and not any more. Doing more than needed is individuality or your ‘doing’ and hence your ego. But ‘doing’ only that which is needed is existing here as pure awareness or consciousness. I will explain this, with an example. Eating compulsively or all the time as and when you wanted, is to exist here as a body. But, eating for nourishment, because food is needed for the body and not for consciousness is, living here as pure consciousness or awareness. That is what awareness or unawareness is – awareness is knowing and doing only what is needed and unawareness means not knowing but doing compulsively, whether needed or not. The same applies to everything else or all what you do.
Hence, dropping all which is unwanted or unneeded is what real renouncement or sanyasa is. You, leaving something physical is not sanyasa, as is understood or as we see around. Leaving physical in the name of sanyasa is ego. Hence real renouncement is of the mind because mind is the other name for compulsiveness. So, if you drop your mind, you are on the path of sanyasa, even if you are home and if you are not really striving to drop your mind then you are not a sanyasi even if you are in jungles. Because once you drop your mind then what is left is pure awareness or consciousness and in awareness there is no other.
