ONLY THAT WHICH EXISTS IN YOUR SLEEP IS REAL
To know, what is temporary and what is permanent; what is transitory and what is eternal or what is unreal and what is real, just follow, one simple rule, which is that, only that which exists in your sleep is permanent, is eternal, is real or is the truth and all that, which does not exist in your sleep, is temporary, transitory or unreal. So, let us find out, all that which exists in your sleep and that which does not and hence is real and is unreal.
In sleep, only ‘you’ exist and nothing else exists for you. In sleep, your body does not exist; your mind does not exist; the world does not exist; others also do not exist in your experience. In your sleep, thus, nothing else but only your existence, does exist, which keeps you alive or because of which, you remain alive in this body. In sleep, nothing extrinsic or external or from outside but only that which is natural; that which is original; that which is innate or intrinsic to your existence, alone does exist and hence, your existence is the only reality, only truth. Everything else which, you consider as me (body and mind); mine (possessions) and others (world) do not exist in your sleep and hence are not real; not permanent, not the truth.
In sleep, thus, all that is unnecessary or that which is external to your reality, disappears temporarily and only your reality alone does exist. However, with your waking up, all that, which did not exist in your sleep - your body, mind, world; others etc – come up again. Thus, that which appears and disappears, comes and goes, is impermanent; is unreal and thus, can never be the reality, can never be the truth. Coming and going is, the nature of impermanent and hence unreal. Only that which exists, all the time is, real; is the truth.
The temporary or impermanent, exists with reference to the other and hence relative existence. But absolute exists, on its own and of its own accord and hence the reality. Your reality is absolute which, does not need any external support or context to exist but it exists, all the time, on its own and of its own accord. The absolute does not come and go; does not appear and disappear but is there, all the times and is there uninterruptedly, both in your sleep and in your waking. The whole existence functions and happens because of the presence of this reality only. The reality is there, all the time, like the screen. However, pictures are a brief happening, in time and space and therefore, untrue or unreal.
Consciousness or
whatever the name, you may give it, alone, does exists in your sleep and hence
the only reality; only truth. Experientially
knowing that dimension, which is real and which alone exists in your sleep, is
the ultimate goal of spirituality. However, we are unable to experience the
truth, in our sleep because, sleep is unconsciousness. In sleep, we lose our
awareness and hence cannot experience that dimension which is eternal. If, you
can, therefore, make this happen in your waking state i.e. if you can
experience that reality or the truth which you could not experience in your
sleep, in your waking state, then you would come awake in metaphysical sense,
which we know as Self-realization or atmasaakshatkar. That’s why
meditation because meditation is the only method to become aware of that which
exists, uninterruptedly, all the time.
