SPIRITUALITY IS NOT RESERVED FOR OLD AGE.
Let us understand that, spirituality is not reserved for old age, as is usually understood. Spirituality is not a subject, which one should look at, post, one’s retirement only. When, you talk to people, about spirituality or being spiritual, the usual reply, is that ‘we would think of spirituality or would consider, becoming spiritual, only post-retirement or only, when we reach to the old age.”
This is not a correct understanding. This impression, that spirituality is reserved for old age, has come from, what we see, which is happening, in the name of spirituality. The usual understanding, among, the larger population, is that spirituality or being spiritual, means, one has to leave his family and move to the jungles. Now, this impression, has travelled amongst us, because, we see lots of people, leaving their families, wearing special clothes and moving to the jungles.
This is all rubbish because spirituality has nothing to do, with the outside. It has nothing to do with your place of living and with the clothes, which you wear. Rather, spirituality is something, which you have to live, on daily basis. It has nothing to do about, what you do in the world. Instead, spirituality has to do, with your internals, with your fundamentals, with your inside.
Let us understand that, there are two dimensions i.e. doing n being. Doing is physical and is on the outside but being is nonphysical and is, of the inside, of your interiority. Now, both these dimensions, can happen together, simultaneously, hand-in-hand, meaning, that you can be in the world and at the same time, you can be spiritual, as well, because, spirituality has to do with your ‘being’.
‘Being’ is your interiority, your existence, your reality and reality of this existence, and is always with you. ‘Being’ is stillness, ‘being’ is presence. Stillness is the ‘Center’ of this existence but movement is periphery. Centre is stillness, is nonphysical whereas periphery is physical.
So, being spiritual, fundamentally, means, that you do, on the outside, whatever you want to do, or whatever is needed but you always remain connected to the stillness, to the dimension within, which we know as spiritual.
Being spiritual, therefore means, you do all that is needed, at the periphery i.e. at the level of your body and mind but you always remain still within, you always remain untouched by, what you do on the outside. Your interiority or your ‘Center’ always remains untouched, by what happens on the outside or what you do on the outside.
