WAKEFULNESS AND SLEEP, ARE NOTHING BUT JUST TWO DIFFERENT STATES OF THE SAME MIND ONLY
What you know, as your wakefulness and sleep, are nothing but just two different states of the same mind only. Your assuming or thinking that ‘I’m awake’ or ‘I’m asleep’, is not at all true because, not you but your mind is actually awake, in your wakefulness and your mind is asleep, in your sleep. Fundamentally, what you know, as sleep, is nothing but your mind, going to sleep temporarily and your waking or wakefulness, is nothing but the same mind, waking up again, from sleep only.
Thus, what you know as life, is nothing but you alternating between these two states of your mind only. So, in reality, not you but your mind is actually living in this body, which you ignorantly know or identify as ‘I’m’. In reality, there is no such thing as ‘I’m’ but it’s the mind, the subtle body, which we also know as jivatma, which actually lives in and drives this body.
So, sleep means, mind going to sleep, or mind going to rest, temporarily. With mind going to sleep, the world stops for you and everything else, just disappears in your experience. In sleep, nothing else exists, for you. After a temporary pause, the same mind comes awake or wakes up from sleep again, which you know as wakefulness. With mind coming awake, it begins to function, again, meaning, the same life begins to repeat itself, as it did yesterday.
Hence, what you know, as life, is nothing but the same mind which is reasserting or repeating itself, again and again. That’s why, everyday though there is a new day for you but nothing really changes or nothing new really happens for you, because the same mind i.e. the same tendencies, same thoughts, same emotions and same memory or information etc takes over and begins to repeat itself and this is how, the whole life passes.
The real awakening for you, will be only, when your mind will go to rest or sleep permanently. Only, then you will come awake in real sense, you will be awake in metaphysical sense, because when the mind is gone, then what remains behind is, only that which IS n is awake and conscious, always. Your consciousness is awake, is conscious, all the time, by itself and that’s why it is named so. Consciousness never goes to sleep, never goes to rest. Consciousness never comes n goes or appears n disappears, like the mind but is always awake and is always there, because consciousness is your real nature. Nature is integral, intrinsic to you. Nature never comes n goes or appears or disappears.
Thus, being in one’s nature, is real awakening. Being in one’s nature, means, you have come full circle, you have come awake, in metaphysical sense. When you come awake, in real sense, which we also know as enlightenment, then you are awake, in your sleep, too, because now you are awake all the time. Being awake, is your way of existing here now and you no more alternate between two states.
Thus, only when your mind sleeps permanently, that you are awake really. For awakening or enlightenment, therefore, what is needed, is that your mind must go to sleep forever. So long the mind is, you are not awake but you exist in a state of unconsciousness or behoshi. Because mind is unconsciousness and that’s why, it is said that our present state is nothing but a state of being asleep or of behoshi because the mind or tendencies are actually living though us or actually driving us. Only when mind disappears completely, you will come awake ie. you will become an expression of your nature i.e. of your consciousness.
