FLOWERING IS NOT IN YOUR HANDS.
Do you know, what a farmer does before the rains come? He does all, which he is supposed to do, from his side, so as to keep, the land ready, before the rains come? After having done all, from his side, he stands aside and just waits for the rains to happen. Rains come and the crops happen. Now, the point, I’m trying to make is, that crops are not in the hands of the farmer. What’s in his hands, is to do, what he can do or supposed to do, from his side. Honestly speaking, that’s all, he can do and nothing more, than, keeping the land ready. Crops are not in his hands. Crops, for him, are just a wait and watch game.
Now, this is equally true, with spirituality, too, and that’s what all sadhana or spiritual practices, actually, are about. Sadhana essentially means, that you do all, which is in your hands and then you stand aside and just wait n watch, with total alertness, for that dimension to happen, which is not in your hands. So, meditation is not in your hands, because, you can’t bring meditation. You can’t make meditation happen to you. Meditation, rather, happens to you.
But, this doesn’t mean that, you don’t have to do your bit. No. you need to do your bit i.e. you need to do, that which is in your hands. If, the farmer, for example, doesn’t do his bit i.e. keep the land ready, then, even if the rains come, those rains can’t produce crops for that farmer. For crops to happen, the farmer has to do his bit. He has to make the land receptive by keeping it ready, so that, when the rains come, the land will receive the rains and crops will happen.
Similarly, meditation happens to you, provided you become receptive, to the dimension which we know, as meditation by preparing yourself enough, so as to receive, the divine, when it comes or when it happens to you. Enlightenment or samadhi is not in your hands. In your hands, is only one thing, which is to become receptive to the dimension, which we know as the ‘beyond’.
Flowering, thus, is not in your hands. Flowering is a matter of Grace. And that’s why, it’s said that flowering or meditation can’t happen without Grace, which only means that flowering can’t happen to you, by your efforts alone. Sadhana, therefore, means, preparing yourself i.e. making yourself receptive to the dimension, which we know, as meditation and then just wait n watch, with full alertness.
So, all
the sadhana, or spiritual practices, which you do or must do, are
fundamentally, to drop, that which is not true i.e. you learn to distance from
that which is untrue or false. Body and mind, are not the truth and hence,
distancing from the physical, is the only sadhana, which you must do. In
fact, this is the only thing, which is in your hand and you can do and must do,
which is that, you learn to distance from the physical, because physical is not
the truth.
