HUMAN OR THE DIVINE.

These are, the two possibilities, for you, to exist here i.e. you exist here either, as a human or as the divine. Now, this in turn depends, on the way, you deal with the physical. If you compulsively react to the physical, then you exist here, as human, as a person, as an ego or as an individual because reacting is physical, reacting is compulsive and hence, unconsciousness. Unconsciousness is human and consciousness is divine.

So, if you pay some attention, then you will notice, that this is, what we are doing all the time i.e. we are compulsively reacting to the physical, all the time, in our wakefulness. Existing in a compulsive state, is to exist here, as a physical, as a body. Now, reacting, is a way of protection and survival of the physical only, because, you see yourself, as this body and you therefore also see others, as physical bodies only. Because, you only know the physical and that’s why, you react, all the time, to the physical.

Other creatures are doing just this only i.e. they are reacting to the physical all the time, because they know, only the physical and thus they exist here, as bodies only. Their actions are compulsive or instinctive, in nature, so that, animals can protect their bodies and thus survive. That’s why, when an animal sees another body, another physical, then he compulsively does one of the three things, namely, he sees that physical or body as a food and eats it, which is for survival and protection of his body only. Secondly, he sees that physical, as a danger and thus, he either attacks that body or runs away from that body, in fear which, too, is for survival and protection of his body only. Lastly, he co-habitates (sahavas) with the other body, which too is for survival n protection of the physical only.

So, if we humans, too, exist in compulsive reaction to the physical, then we exist like other animals. This is the way of unconsciousness i.e. unlimited and indiscriminate involvement with the physical because, you only know the physical. However, as I mentioned above, that we humans are capable of existing here, as the divine i.e. as nonphysical, as consciousness. We, therefore, have the possibility of becoming conscious and exist here, as total consciousness. Since, we have already evolved to a certain amount of consciousness and hence, by efforts, this evolution can be stretched into total consciousness.

So, the way, to exist here, as the divine or as a conscious ‘being’, is not to react compulsively but to act or respond consciously i.e. out of conscious choice and not out of any compulsion within. That’s the only difference between a reaction and a response. Reaction is automatic, compulsive but response is conscious i.e. by choice. And, consciousness is the way of the divine, which is that, you don’t react but you always exist, in consciousness or awareness, which is your nature and you act or respond, in the light of that awareness, as and when needed and not exist here, as a compulsive reaction to the physical.

That is awareness. Awareness means, you involve yourself with the physical only, when needed and only to the extent it’s needed. It’s like, your mobile phone is lying beside you and picking up the phone, when needed is awareness or consciousness or the way of the divine and picking up the phone, compulsively and habitually, is the way of the human or of the unconsciousness.

So, we human beings, have this possibility to exist here, like the divine, while being in this human form which other creatures can’t. But this possibility of existing here, as the divine becomes real only, when every moment, in our waking, we exercise this choice of becoming conscious or aware and not exist in a compulsive or unconscious state, as we exist now.

So, to exist in compulsive mode, is to be human but to exist in conscious mode, is to be the divine. Reacting to the physical is human and responding to the physical is divine. Meditation is a state of pure awareness and hence, a practice to learn to exist here, as the divine.
