THE BODY IS. THE CONSCIOUSNESS IS. BUT THERE’S NO SUCH THING, AS BODY- CONSCIOUSNESS.
Please understand one thing, that the body is, the consciousness is. But there’s no such thing, as body-consciousness. This combination i.e. uniting this consciousness, this energy of the existence, with this body, is our making, which, in the yogic tradition, is also known as ahankara. Ahankara means identity. So, identification of this energy, with this body, is our doing, which we do in our minds and hence, body-consciousness, is just an idea, which exists, in our minds or imagination only and not in reality because, mind is not.
Therefore, there’s no such thing, as body-consciousness, or ahankara or identity. Of course, the body and the consciousness are there, as two independent realities. Now, when, I say, body is a reality, it only means that, it’s a temporary reality, because, this body is there, with you, for certain period of time. Consciousness, on the other hand, is there, all the time, uninterruptedly and hence, consciousness, is the ultimate reality, the only reality of this existence.
Now, consciousness or energy of this existence is, conscious or aware by itself and hence, consciousness, knows all and is all. So, existing in awareness or in consciousness, all the time and doing what is needed, with this body, is to exist in the reality. Using this body, as a tool, for living, for survival, in the presence of the consciousness, is to exist in freedom. But, body-consciousness i.e. you identifying this consciousness, with this body, is your doing, which you do, in your thoughts and thoughts are of the mind and do exist in mind or imagination only.
Identification with this body or body-consciousness, means, forgetting the two, as separate and independent realities and instead artificially combining the two realities into one, and taking and knowing this temporary reality i.e. this body, which is seen on the surface, as the ultimate reality or the truth. Combining this energy, with this body, therefore, is bondage, because, now this energy, which though is free, is limitless and formless, by nature, but, because of your identification with this body, as ‘me’ or ‘I’, makes this energy to function, in a limited way i.e. only for this body.
Hence, living with this idea of body-consciousness, is to exist here, as a limited entity, as a physical, as a body, because, physical is limited. But to live here, in consciousness and to use this body, as a tool, is to exist here as limitless, formless and boundless i.e. as a nonphysical, as the divine. All the suffering, which human beings undergo, are because of this bondage i.e. because of our treating body as ‘real’ doer and not knowing the real doer i.e. the consciousness.
That’s why, we suffer, we go through pain, we remain restless and worried, in our waking, because, in our waking, we live with this idea of body-consciousness, we live in complete identification of this energy, with this body. We have totally forgotten the ultimate reality i.e. consciousness and only know and remember temporary reality i.e. this body, as the doer, as the permanent reality and hence, the bondage, the suffering.
But, in our sleep, this identification or body-consciousness is not and hence, we exist in total peace, silence n stillness. Because, in sleep, this ‘make-believe’ reality i.e. this idea of body-consciousness is not. In sleep, both these realities i.e. this body and the consciousness, exist as they originally are i.e. on their own.
So, drop this body-consciousness i.e. uniting or identifying consciousness, with this body, which you do, in your mind or thoughts because, mind is not, thought is not. Mind or thought, is your making which, you do, by seeing this body as ‘me’ or as ‘I’, upon your waking up from sleep. Mind or thought is a result of your seeing and taking the physical, as real, as ultimate reality and at the same time, forgetting the truth or the ultimate reality.
So, drop this idea of body consciousness, this ‘make-believe’ combination of two realities and learn to exist in your body, all the time, in your waking, which is another way of saying to exist in consciousness, in the reality and use this body as a tool, as needed. Dropping body-consciousness, also means, existing always in awareness, in consciousness, all the time and doing what’s needed, in the light of that consciousness. That’s the way, to exist in total freedom, because, dropping body-consciousness or body-identification, is to keep this energy free from all bondage. Meditation is practicing to exist here, free from the thought of body-consciousness.
